SMP Laboratorium UM Malang punya banyak program ekstrakurikuler (ekskul), yaitu:
Itu semua ekskul yg bisa diikuti siswa jika kondisi normal. Saat pandemi Covid 19, jumlahnya jadi menyusut, karena gak semua ekskul bisa dilaksanakan secara daring.
Saat awal masuk SMP tahun lalu, saya ingin sekali ikut ekskul teater. Tapi setelah adanya pandemi, saya harus merelakan keinginan itu, karena teater termasuk ekskul yang tidak bisa dilakukan secara daring. Selain teater, ada banyak ekskul yang ditiadakan oleh sekolah, beberapa contohnya yaitu renang, voli, band, teater, karawitan, drum band, dll. Tidak mungkin bukan bagi yang mengikuti ekskul renang harus membuat kolam renang sendiri di rumah masing-masing?
Saat ini saya mengikuti 2 ekskul yaitu menyanyi dan public speaking. Kegiatannya sangat seru, kebanyakan kita belajar melalui zoom/google meet yang membahas tentang teknik-teknik bagaimana cara melakukan pernafasan yang benar dan tips agar selalu percaya diri ketika berbicara di depan banyak orang. Selain mempelajari berbagai teknik, kedua ekskul ini juga didatangi tamu-tamu alumni SMP Lab yang sangat pandai dalam bidangnya. Mereka berbagi pengalaman ketika menjadi MC dalam suatu acara, dan membagikan tips-tips berdasarkan hal-hal yang sudah pernah mereka alami.
Tugas-tugas di ekskul yang saya ikuti lebih banyak berhubungan dengan kamera/video/rekaman, sedangkan tugas sekolah lebih banyak mengerjakan modul/tugas-tugas yang menggunakan buku dan bolpoin. Kebanyakan, tugas public speaking dan menyanyi membuat video praktik seperti tugasku kemarin yaitu, siswa memerankan diri sebagai MC membacakan naskah yang sudah disiapkan guru. Tugas lainnya yaitu siswa menceritakan pengalaman berharga seperti misalnya liburan keluarga, dll. Ekskul menyanyi pun tugasnya juga praktek, contohnya membuat rekaman menyanyikan lagu favorit, lagu persahabatan, lagu daerah, dll. Harapan saya semoga sekolah tatap muka segera dilaksanakan agar bisa mengikuti ekskul yang saya impikan yaitu teater.
