Kegiatan Pembelajaran
Pembelajaran dimulai dengan kegiatan review materi pada pertemuan sebelumnya, yakni materi satuan baku dan tak baku. Guru mengajak siswa untuk mengingat kembali melalui tanya-jawab tentang alat ukur apa yang digunakan siswa pada pertemuan sebelumnya. Siswa memberikan jawaban mengukur dengan jengkal tangan, pensil dan penggaris secara aktif.
Sebagai langkah menghubungkan materi sebelumnya dengan materi hari ini, guru meminta 2 siswa untuk maju dan mengukur diameter dalam tutup bolpoin menggunakan penggaris. Ketika mengukur guru memberikan pertanyaan, dapatkah siswa mengukur diameter dalam tutup bolpoin menggunakan penggaris? Siswa pun mampu menjawab dan membuktikan bahwa diameter dalam tutup bolpoin dapat diukur menggunakan penggaris. Guru kembali memberikan tantangan dengan meminta siswa untuk mengukur diameter luar tutup bolpoin. Ternyata siswa mengalami kesulitan dan mengungkapkan bahwa tidak bias mengukur perbedaan diameter dalam dan diameter luar tutup menggunakan penggaris kecuali ada penggaris yang dapat melingkari tutup ucap salah satu siswa.
Bermodalkan kesulitan yang dialami siswa tersebut, guru mengajukan pertanyaan adakah alat lain yang bias digunakan untuk mengukur diameter dalam, diameter luar bahkan kedalaman tutup bolpoin? Siswa pun mulai berpikir untuk menjawab pertanyaan yang diajukan guru. Guru membimbing siswa untuk menemukan jawaban dengan cara membagikan lembar kerja siswa yang sekaligus berisi potongan-potongan puzzle tentang alat yang akan menjadi jawaban. Siswa menyusun potongan-potongan puzzle bersama kelompok dengan antusias dan gembira. Hingga akhirnya potongan puzzle tersusun lengkap dan siswa mampu menemukan jawaban alat ukur jangka sorong dan mikrometer sekrup.
Setelah memastikan setiap kelompok telah menyusun puzzle, guru melanjutkan kegiatan pembelajaran membimbing siswa untuk mencermati puzzle yang telah tersusun. Puzzle dibuat dengan perbedaan warna pada skala utama dan skala nonius dengan harapan dapat mempermudah siswa dalam memahami cara membaca skala pada jangka sorong dan mikrometer sekrup. Pertanyaan-pertanyaan dalam LKS pun disusun secara detail dan bertahap sebagai gambaran cara membaca skala pada jangka sorong dan mikrometer sekrup. Selama proses penemuan jawaban, siswa berdiskusi dan bekerjasama dengan teman sekelompok.
Kegiatan pembelajaran berlanjut pada praktik menggunakan alat ukur jangka sorong dam mikrometer. Mula-mula guru meminta setiap perwakilan kelompok untuk maju dan mengambil alat ukur. Guru menjelaskan cara menggunakan alat ukur kepada setiap perwakilan kelompok dan meminta setiap perwakilan kelompok tersebut untuk mengajari teman sekelompoknya. Selama kegiatan ini guru berkeliling untuk memantau apakah perwakilan kelompok telah melaksanakan tugas untuk mengajari teman sekelompoknya. Ternyata ditemukan beberapa kesulitan, salah satunya dalam membaca skala pada alat ukur. Siswa masih kebingungan dalam menghubungkan gambar pada puzzle yang telah dipelajari sebelumnya dengan alat ukur yang sedang dihadapi.
Guru mendatangi setiap kelompok untuk memberikan bimbingan terkait cara membaca skala pada alat ukur yang sedang digunakan siswa dengan cara memberikan satu contoh mengukur diameter dalam bolpoin. Siswa memperhatikan dengan seksama dan bertanya ketika mengalami kesulitan dalam menentukan skala utama serta skala nonius. Setelah setiap kelompok telah memahami cara menggunakan alat ukur dan membaca skala dengan tepat, guru memberikan kesempatan kepada siswa untuk mengumpulkan data dan mencatatnya dalam table yang telah disediakan di LKS.
Setelah tahap mengumpulkan data selesai, guru meminta salah satu kelompok untuk menuliskan data yang diperoleh di papan tulis. Kemudian guru mengajak seluruh siswa untuk mencermati data pengukuran tebal koin menggunakan jangka sorong dan mikrometer sekrup. Siswa memperhatikan data dan mencoba mencari perbedaan data yang tertulis di papan. Guru memberikan pertanyaan terkait perbedaan nilai ukur pada data, nilai ukur manakah yang lebih besar atau lebih kecil? Siswa pun mampu menentukan data nilai ukur dengan alat ukur mikrometer memperoleh hasil yang lebih kecil. Bermodalkan jawaban siswa inilah, guru mengarahkan pada kesimpulan alat ukur manakah yang lebih teliti. Siswa pun mampu menarik kesimpulan bahwa alat ukur mikrometer adalah alat ukur yang lebih teliti dan dapat mengukur benda-benda yang lebih tipis.
Perolehan Siswa
Pada kegiatan menyusun puzzle guru berharap siswa dapat menikmati pembelajaran melalui permainan yang menyenangkan dan tetap mampu bekerjasama bersama teman sekelompok. Selain itu, guru pun ingin agar siswa mampu menemukan jawaban terkait alat ukur yang akan digunakan tanpa diberi tahu oleh guru secara langsung, sehingga tetap ada proses siswa mampu menemukan jawaban secara mandiri.
Ketika guru meminta perwakilan kelompok untuk mengajari teman sekelompoknya tentang cara menggunakan dan membaca skala pada alat ukur jangka sorong, guru ingin mengajarkan sikap amanah dan bertanggung jawab dalam menyampaikan pesan. Selain itu, guru juga ingin mengajarkan siswa dalam kelompok untuk belajar melalui tutor sebaya dan belajar menghargai saat teman yang lain sedang berbicara.
Pada kegiatan mencermati data bersama, guru berharap siswa dapat memperoleh pengetahuan baru berdasarkan temuan mereka sendiri sesuai dengan karakteristik model pembelajaran Discovery Learning yang digunakan. Semua aspek yang diharapkan guru, hampir semua dapat dicapai oleh siswa tetapi tetap membutuhkan bimbingan yang intens dari guru pada setiap tahapan pembelajaran.
