Hari Senin tanggal 17 September 2018 siswa siswi SMP LAB UM seperti biasa melaksanakan upacara bendera. Upacara bendera merupakan kegiatan rutin yang menumbuhkan karakter nasionalisme. Yang tidak biasa adalah yang menjadi pembina upacara adalah pak Deddy C. Wahono dari BHABINKAMTIBMAS.
Dra. Yayuk Prihatnawati, M.Pd selaku Kepala Sekolah mengungkapkan, bahwa Peningkatan kesadaran hukum dimulai dari pendidikan. Pendidikan yang baik akan menghasilkan manusia yang bertanggung jawab, toleran, dan peduli dengan lingkungannya. Hanya orang-orang terpelajarlah yang mencintai ketertiban dan keharmonisan hidup bermasyarakat. SMP LAB UM senantiasa membekali siswa siswinya tidak hanya akademik, pengasahan potensi diri namun juga memberikan dasar karakter yang baik untuk masa depannya.
Sekolah ingin membelajarkan siswa siswi tentang kedisiplinan, rasa tangungjawab dan meningkatkan kesadaran hukum.
Siswa siswi SMP LAB UM merupakan generasi penerus bangsa, maka dari itu harus bisa memahami dan menerapkan tentang arti pentingnya hukum. Diharapkan siswa siswi SMP LAB akan lebih berhati hati dalam bergaul, bercanda yang keterlaluan, pembulian, palak, mengancam dan menggunakan media sosial yang kurang bijak akan bertentangan dengan hukum bahkan dianggap melanggar hukum yang akan bisa mendapatkan sanksi.
